Host a Drive

Host Your Own Clothing Drive!

Often, foster children come into new homes with only the clothes on their backs. For foster families on a budget, it can be expensive to replenish these items. You can help by hosting your own Clothing Drive for area foster children. Receiving new clothes is ordinary for most, but for foster children, it’s a real treat, bringing them great joy and providing foster families with the community support they deserve.

How it Works

Spread the Word About Your Donation Drive

Invite, encourage, and even solicit friends, peers, coworkers, family and neighbors to donate new, unwrapped toys for kids of all ages.

Get the word out by talking to friends, neighbors and coworkers, sending an email, and using your social network.  Here's a sample email or a sample Facebook post  for you to use.

Hang posters, in high-traffic areas or distribute to potential donors at gatherings.

Talk it up at staff meetings, kid's soccer games, or community gatherings, send an announcement in your work newsletter, or slip the information into a meeting agenda.

Collect Your Donations

Create a central place to collect donations whether it’s the office lobby or kitchen, or your home.  Clearly mark containers for donation drop offs.  If a cash donation is preferred, ask for checks made out to Sleep Train Foster Kids or they can donate online here

Drop Off Your Donations to the Nearest Sleep Train

Use the store locator to find the most convenient drop off location. Or, if the donation is too large for your car, call us 916-751-4300 and we’ll send a delivery truck to pick it up.

Share Your Success

Provide us with your name, contact information and a short story about your efforts, and we’ll share your generosity with local newspapers and community blogs.  You deserve the fame and it shows other community members that they can make a difference too. Email communityrelations@sleeptrain.com.

Subject: Help me outfit foster children for success

Hi there,

Foster children are often removed from their homes with only the clothes on their backs. For foster families, this means replenishing essentials like shoes, coats, pajamas, and clothing. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for foster families on a tight budget to outfit growing kids and teens.

That’s why I’m supporting the Sleep Train Clothing Drive for Foster Kids this year. With 20 nonprofit foster organization partners, the program is designed to take in donations and disperse them to those children most in need. My goal is to collect (number) of new clothing items for children of various ages and all sizes, and I need your help!

Donations of new clothing in all sizes from toddler to adult can be dropped off at (insert location) and I will take them to Sleep Train. I have fun with shopping and always find great deals that allow me to buy one or two more items, but if shopping isn’t your cup of tea, you can always donate online and Sleep Train employees will do the shopping on your behalf.

Let me know if you have questions!

Thanks,

(insert name)
